Capital Planning Sr Analyst

  2. Guide the development and administration of the annual capital planning process for McLeod Health. Participate with Senior Executives in developing criteria, standards, policies and procedures to support the optimization of capital planning processes.
  3. Facilitate annual system-wide capital planning and ongoing capital reviews with Senior Executives, including professional coordination of activities for evaluating and monitoring capital approvals and spending.
  4. Perform balance sheet analysis including capital capacity and recommendations for capital spending constraints. Communicate capital availability and capital spending plan to Senior Leadership.
  5. Provide oversight and analysis of previously approved capital projects, ensuring business reviews are completed timely to evaluate the effectiveness of projects in achieving targeted metrics / measures (hindsight analysis). Provide regular updates to Senior Leadership.
  6. Issue system-wide capital planning calendar.  Coordinate and manage tools, templates, training / guidance, and global assumptions for capital planning across McLeod Health.
  7. Manage training / education of capital planning throughout the system, enhancing capital planning competencies across the system, including influencing other analysts, directors, and executive leaders.
  8. Advise and collaborate with McLeod Health facilities on capital policies and procedures.  Act as a resource for capital inquiries and interpretations as they relate to internal policies/procedures and GAAP. 
  9. Prepare and analyze capital budget spending to ensure expenses are within the Board approved budget.  Address overages with McLeod Health facilities.  Provide guidance and availability of out of cycle funding to remedy overages.


The Capital Planning Senior Analyst will perform system-wide financial planning activities, primarily focused on capital planning. This role will coordinate, manage, and disseminate capital & financial planning tools, calendars, and standard processes with a focus on continuous improvement. This role is responsible for providing expertise and guidance on capital policies and procedures across McLeod Health. The Capital Planning Senior Analyst will perform cash flow and balance sheet analysis, working with senior finance leadership to assess capital availability within the context of the long-range financial plan. Will facilitate capital planning sessions with Senior Executives, ensuring optimization of the portfolio of investment decisions. Is responsible for coordinating and ensuring completion of business case analysis on threshold capital requests and hindsight analysis of previously approved capital projects.


Qualifications /Training:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field


Experience: 2-5 years of progressively more responsible employment in accounting or finance


Other skills/knowledge:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of finance, including budgeting, forecasting, strategic financial planning, and capital planning, in an integrated healthcare environment.
  • Advanced computer skills with strong knowledge of spreadsheet programs; experience with database and decision support systems is preferred.
  • Ability to perform under changing circumstances and deadlines.  
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to learn quickly.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to command respect and confidence with professional peers.
