Preferred Qualifications/Education

Five to Ten years’ experience managing certified coders in a multi-specialty environment with both E/M and surgical procedures. Experience identifying revenue cycle management problems related to coding and offering best practice solutions.  Must possess strong analytical skills essential to identify opportunities for improvement as well as strong communication and leadership skills.   Must be resourceful, organized and have demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously. 

 

 

 

Licenses and/or Certifications:

CPC Certification thru the AAPC or other nationally recognized coding credentialing is required. Stipulation for other nationally recognized credentialing must receive AAPC certification within 1 year of hire.   Additional certification/degrees

 welcomed.  

 

1.  Maintains a professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers

     in accordance with our Service Excellence and Core Value Standards

2.  Demonstrates leadership skills in managing all designated coding personnel in a caring and compassionate manner.   

     Build and maintain a strong functional coding team through effective hiring, training, mentoring, coaching, and team

     building.   Prepare and participate in the preparation of coding staff training and development as well as performance

     management.. 

3.  Assist and work closely with corporate compliance in establishing best practices related to coding and documentation guidelines for the McLeod physician network.

4.  Oversee departmental internal coding audits to ensure all charges are being captured and are in compliance with CMS,

     HIPAA, OIG and other governmental and regulatory agencies.

5  Maintains a knowledge of current coding industry developments across all specialties assigned.  Provide training and

    education to physicians, advanced care providers, billing office staff, clinic staff, clinic leaders and leadership teams on

     proper documentation and coding guidelines.

6. Oversee continuing education and adoption of coding resource tools necessary for the coding specialists to perform

    their jobs effectively.

7. Oversee the development of departmental coding policies and work flow procedures including evaluation of current

    processes and the development/implementation of consistent standards and streamlined functions. 

8. Oversee development and implementation of all coding assist software initiatives across the McLeod network as it relates

    to professional coding 

9. Participate and meet with McLeod physicians, Office Managers, Operational AVPs on a regular basis to provide

    coding trending performance relative to the overall revenue cycle process. 

10. Maintain and participate in McLeod Health leadership principles and development programs.  Attend meetings and

      serve on various committees as assigned.

11.  Provide recommendation for process improvement as it related to coding.  

12. Provide oversight of charge capture, manual charge entry, coding edit resolutions, provider documentation with the

      current EMR system.
