Job Description

  • Maintains credentials through AAPC or AHIMA
  • Keeps abreast of all new coding developments by attending any coding classes, reading articles on coding updates, and attending seminars when available
  • Reviews orders to be sure all necessary elements are included (diagnosis, signature, date and time)
  • Properly assigns ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes to outpatient visits for ancillary departments (Lab, Radiology, etc)
  • Properly assigns ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes on Rehab accounts when available with signed POC for Medicare patients and on admission for other payers
  • Properly assigns ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes for all recurring accounts (except IVT)
  • Routinely performs a follow-up on old accounts to assure proper documentation is received to allow coding to be completed
  • Maintains department specific productivity standards with a 95% accuracy rate
  • Performs other coding and backup duties in the department as needed
  • Respects patient confidentiality at all times

Job Requirements

Preferred Qualifications/Education:

At least one year coding instruction in qualified program or one year coding experience in hospital setting

Licenses and/or Certifications:

Must maintain credentials of CPC or COC through AAPC or RHIT, CCA or CCS through AHIMA

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to use Microsoft Office recommended, primarily in Word and Excel
