Job Description

  1. Job responsibilities include those listed in the competency document.
  2. Maintains a professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers in accordance with our Service Excellence Standards and Core Values.
  3. Recognizes the normal signs (growth and development of aging) of the patient population indicated above and understands the requirements of assessment, treatment, and care of the specific age group(s).
  4. Initiates and maintains the hygiene/ cleanliness of the patients, the patient's environment, and the unit environment.
  5. Understands and recognizes appropriate storage and safety of medications (such as large volume IV's, alcohol, saline, medications in prepackaged kits).
  6. Using Service Excellence Standards conducts Hourly Rounds.
  7. Promotes and fosters an environment of comfort and safety for patients and visitors.
  8. Performs or assists with performing nutritional/ hydration interventions (feeding, providing fluids, H20 or snacks).
  9. Identifies and communicates appropriate patient data to members of the interdisciplinary team.
  10. Collects and records patient related data through the performance of direct care tasks.
  11. Demonstrates continued professional growth through setting goals and participating in Evidence Based tasks.
  12. Utilizes appropriate health and safety to protect both the patient and staff.
  13. Fosters an environment that demonstrates caring, compassion and respect for all patients, families and visitors.
  14. Performs general transportation and courier duties as directed.
  15. Demonstrates competency in, but not limited to, the following on the assigned Nursing Unit (refer to McLeod Health Medical-Surgical Technician/Extern II/Extern III/Graduate Extern Competency Checklist):

Required Skills

McLeod Health allows Nursing Assistants to further their education by providing Advanced Skills Training during their first week of employment. As a Medical Surgical Technician, he/she can assist the RN by supporting the patients’ basic needs; ensuring sterilization of rooms, beds, and equipment; offering Sterile dressing care; Foley Catheter Care, Phlebotomy, and Telemetry observation just to name a few.

Position type: Part time and PRN positions available throughout various departments and units.
Schedule: Shifts vary and are based on department needs. Does include working weekends and holidays.
Education: Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited school. Evidence of completing a Nursing Assistant training course required.
Orientation/Training: First week with McLeod: Monday 7:30am to 5:00pm; Tuesday 8:00am to 5:00pm; Thursday 8:00am to 12:00pm and Friday 8:30am to 12:30pm. If you are selected for hire, completing this orientation/training schedule is required to successfully complete the post offer requirements.

Department: Positions may be available in various departments or units such as: Medical, Cardiac Division, Oncology, Nephrology (Renal), Orthopedic, Post-Operative Care, Neurology, Stroke Unit just to name a few. Applicants are considered for the area(s) within McLeod that have current needs.
