Infection Preventionist (FT) – Loris

  1. Maintains a professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers in accordance with our Service Excellence Standards and Core Values.  

  1. Implements and directs McLeod Health Corporate Infection Control and Prevention (IC&P) plan to meet the overall quality needs. 

  1. Analyzes data to determine most significant opportunities for control of infections and communicable disease. 

  1. Conducts on-going healthcare-associated infection surveillance using sound epidemiologic principles 

  1. Implements corporate policies governing the prevention and control of infections and communicable diseases among patients, staff, and visitors. 

  1. Integrates the organization’s IC&P program into the overall PI program 

  1. Works with all departments to create standardized reporting of all data and infection control activities 

  1. Provides initial and on-going education to staff regarding infections, communicable diseases, and the organization’s infection control program. 

  1. Collaborates with public health officials on disease control activities and reporting requirements and maintain appropriate records 

  1. Report to the Corporate Infection Control Steering Committee. 

  1. Within areas of assigned responsibility, evaluates construction projects for potential infection risk and provides Plant Operations with appropriate guidance on barriers, as well as issue ICRA permit  

  1. Participate in investigations of unusual hospital infection outbreaks utilizing the microbiology laboratory, consultation with Infectious Disease Division, county/state public health departments, and when necessary in consultation with the Center for Disease Control.



  • One or more years of experience in Infection Control   

  • Knowledge and experience in areas of patient care practices, microbiology, asepsis, disinfection/sterilization, adult education, infectious disease, communication, program administration, and epidemiology  

  • Excellent verbal and written communications ability is required to effectively work with all types and levels of personnel and disciplines within the organization.  


  • Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Art, Business, Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical Technology, or related fields from an accredited school 

  • CIC certification after training completed and at 4 years of experience.
