JOB DESCRIPTION
Maintains a professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-
workers in accordance with our Service Excellence Standards and Core Values.
Assists the physician in assessing the needs of patients based on data collected through history, observation,
physical exam, telephone triage and analysis of diagnostic data:
a) Greets patients, places them in the examination room and prepares them to be seen by the physician
b) Takes vital signs, history and asks patient for chief complaints. Documents all relevant information and
treatment on the patients chart
c) Assists physician with the examination and treatment of the patients as required. Chaperones female
exams
d) Prepares medication and gives the injections as ordered by the physician
e) Assists the physician with treatments and procedures
f) Schedules testing and referral appointments for patients per physician instructions and completes follow
up.
g) Provides instructions and information to patient regarding tests for procedures to be done, making certain
patient understands instructions and information
h) Consults with patient on telephone calls either addressing the problem or referring the call to another
clinical staff or physician, as appropriate
i) Calls in and documents prescriptions as ordered by physician
j) Reviews daily laboratory and radiology reports, notifying the physician of any abnormal results. Calls
patients with test results according to established policy and as directed by the physician
k) Provides routine patient education
Performs other duties necessary in providing high quality patient care:
a) Cleans and straightens examination room between patients according to OSHA standards
b) Keeps all necessary instruments clean and in examination rooms
c) Ensures that examination and treatment rooms are adequately stocked with medical supplies
d) Sets up and maintains equipment, immediately notifies physician office manager or appropriate personnel
of any malfunction
e) Maintains medical supply inventory, checks expiration dates on drugs and vaccines and disposes of outdated medications. Orders all medical supplies and assists drug representatives as needed
f) Works with other staff to file all labs reports, hospital notes and correspondences into patient charts
g) Reviews charts regularly to ensure that patient has completed all testing required and has returned for follow-up appointments regularly, documenting non-compliance
h) Develops and maintains a working knowledge of all equipment needed to perform duties
Possesses skills and abilities required in a multifaceted environment in addition to those relating to nursing:
a) Attends scheduled in-services. Reads and assimilates materials that provide information on the practice and community services
b) Maintains professional clinical knowledge, skills and required certification through annual self review and by attending the appropriate education programs. Continually works toward self-improvement, takes responsibility for own self-development
c) Actively participates in departmental QA projects. Promotes the practice mission and philosophy
d) Promotes the practice with a positive image
e) Maintains good rapport with peers and management. Is enthusiastic and positive about job responsibilities

Qualifications /Training:
one year experience in a physicians office or other clinical setting.
Licenses/Certifications/Registrations/Education:
Graduate of accredited licensed practical nursing program. Licensed LPN in the State of South Carolina.
