The Pharmacy Technician performs technical (non-professional) duties involved in the operation of the outpatient drug distribution system. Greets patients and assists in responding to their needs in the pharmacy. Gather patient information and process prescriptions requested by the patient. Exhausts all efforts to communicate with the patient any issue or delay in filling their prescriptions. Notifies Pharmacist and contacts prescriber if appropriate in a timely manner when there is a concern about a prescription related to a drug interaction, allergy, drug disease state interaction, and other circumstances as indicated. Responsible for investigating and resolving third-party payment issues. Responsible for maintaining proper records and documents as required by state and federal laws. The Pharmacy Technician shall only be done under direct supervision of a pharmacist. The Pharmacy Technician position requires skill and training, but does not perform duties requiring the professional judgment of a pharmacist. The Pharmacy Technician must have the communication skills necessary to function in an environment which services the public. The Pharmacy Technician maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
Work Schedule Full time; 80 hours biweekly including weekends. Hours of operation are 7:00am to 8:00pm Monday-Friday and 9:00am to 1:00pm on Saturdays.
Department Description Employee Pharmacy: Provides prescription and over the counter medication for outpatients and employees.
- High school graduate or equivalent (GED).
- Register Pharmacy Tech – Must be registered with the SC pharmacy board.
- Certified Pharmacy Tech – South Carolina State Pharmacy Technician certification required. Must have a good background in mathematics, and have good communication skills. Must pass a written exam (>75%) before being hired.
Experience Required At least 6 months experience as a Pharmacy Technician (or similar job experience preferred), and have exhibited a high degree of reliability, dependability, above average flexibility in job adaptability and competency in previous work performance. The Pharmacy Technician must pass a competency test (>75%) within their 6 month probationary period.
