JOB DESCRIPTION
- Serves as primary educator for all patients undergoing ostomy surgery.
- Assess ostomy patients returning to the hospital in regard to: (a) at-home management of ostomy; (b) knowledge level regarding ostomy care; (c) problems in ostomy management of psychosocial rehabilitation.
- Serves as a consultant in the management of patients with draining wounds and fistulas.
- Assists staff in maintaining current knowledge and competence in the areas of ostomy care, draining wound management, and skin care.
- Serves a clinical preceptor to graduate and undergraduate nursing students on the nursing consultant role.
- Helps with analysis of stock items and makes recommendations to Material Services regarding equipment for ostomy, wound, and skin care.
- Attends national and/or regional conferences in ostomy care and/or related topics to maintain expertise and enforced current knowledge in clinical practice.
- Maintains certification for Wound and Ostomy Care.
- Collects and reports data to quality and safety commitment as indicated.
- Provide consultation and direct assistance to nursing staff in the management of patients with altered skin integrity secondary to drainage or pressure.
- Utilizes appropriate health and safety equipment to protect both patient and staff.
Qualifications /Training:
- One year of related work experience required
Licenses/Certifications/Registrations/Education:
- Licensed as RN in SC
- Two-year Associate Degree in Nursing from an NLN approved school of nursing field.
Work Schedule:
- Full-time, 72 hours bi-weekly
