Inpatient Hospice – Unit Secretary
Essential Duties
- Maintains a professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers in accordance with our Service Excellence Standards and Core Values.
- Performs receptionist and scheduling duties for the Hospice House in a manner that is customer and patient oriented.
- Answers the telephone and routes messages to appropriate person.
- Maintains current information regarding staff assignments and patient location.
- Facilitates admissions, transfers and discharges, in coordination with the charge nurse and housekeeping.
- Schedules any requested visits for RN, SW and Chaplain in HCHB.
- Provides requested information to patients and families. If unable to help directs questions to charge nurse or Manager. Ensures and maintains the privacy of the patient.
- Organizes, scans and ensures completeness of the medical record during admissions and discharges.
- Scans medical records into the HCHB record.
- Maintains control and storage of the medical records in a systematic, orderly fashion.
- Willing to perform the duties of a Hospice Technician when needed.
- Completes Hospice orders specialist workflow.
- Processes various documents including, CTI, Plan of care, physicians orders, re-certifications, through HCHB.
- Ensures that all documents are signed in a timely manner. Reports to Manager when the CTI or the re-certification has not been processed within a timely manner.
- Maintains control over inventory of patient care supplies. Monitors items for expiration dates and replaces them as needed.
Work Schedule: 72 Hours Biweekly, 7a -7p, Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Qualifications /Training: Experience in caring for terminally ill patients and their family. Use of computer software experience.
Licenses/Certifications/Registrations/Education:
- Graduate of a Nursing Assistant Program, with a certificate or diploma, or state Aide license
- HS diploma preferred/Equivalent from an accredited school required
