Essential Job Responsibilities/Expectations

1.   Job responsibilities include those listed in competency document2.   Maintains a professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers in accordance with our Service Excellence Standards and Core Values 3.   Provides clinical pharmacy coverage for the patients in pediatric, neonatal, and women’s health, and general adult patient populations4.   Provides clinical pharmacy services including but not limited to pharmacokinetics, drug dosing consultations, and drug information5.   Participates in multidisciplinary rounds daily as applicable to assigned clinical areas6.   Works as a team member with a positive attitude when interacting with other department employees including pharmacy students and residents in addition to other hospital personnel7.   Should be knowledgeable in medications and exhibit the clinical and professional skills to positively interact with physician, nurse, and other health care practitioners in hospital formulary issues, in-services, rounds, etc. 8.   Accurately interprets and enters medication orders in the computer for drug administration9.   Ensures that medications are dispensed and delivered promptly10.   Correctly checks medications including IVs, carts and kits before dispensing from the pharmacy11.   Help promote safe and effective use of all automated medication dispensing and packaging systems, any applicable infusion pump technologies, remote temperature monitoring systems, eMAR and all other hospital pharmacy technology12.   Knows and follows both hospital and pharmacy policies and procedures, medication related policies and procedures located online in the patient care manual13.   Contacts the provider in a timely manner when there is a concern about a medication order related to a drug interaction, allergy, drug disease state interaction, issue with med reconciliation or other CPOE orders, and other circumstances as indicated14.   Handles and resolves customer issues, complaints and questions to build customer trust and loyalty 15.   Knows and follows state and federal laws regarding dispensing of medications16.   Knows and follows regulatory standards and policies related to all governing bodies17.   Provides supervision and direction to pharmacy technicians to ensure timely and accurate pharmacy services.18.   Assists in the training and education of pharmacists, pharmacy residents, pharmacy students and pharmacy technician students19.   Serves as a preceptor to pharmacy residents and students, including participation in research as it applies to assigned clinical areas20.   Reports adverse drug events (ADE) within assigned clinical areas21.   Develops department educational/monitoring tools and in-services to promote continued growth of clinical pharmacy services and up to date practice as it pertains assigned clinical areas22.   Develops and maintains policies and protocols as necessary related to assigned clinical areas23.   Participates in hospital committees related to assigned clinical areas where pharmacy involvement is needed24.   Reviews appropriate use of medications to include optimization of use and cost considerations25.   Contributes to the continued development of the practice of the profession of pharmacyJob RequirementsQualifications/Training:PGY1, requiredPGY2 in certain specialty areas, preferredAbility to work independently, required

Licenses/Certifications/Registrations/Education:•   Minimum of a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited school of pharmacy•   Current, unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in the state of South Carolina
