Essential Job Responsibilities/Expectations
1. Job responsibilities include those listed in the competency document.

3. The Medical Assistant will be the primary working partner with the infectious disease physicians. A partial list of
responsibilities follows:
· Participates in the collaborative management of patient care across the continuum, intervening as necessary
to remove barriers to timely and efficient care delivery.
· Initiates discussion with patient & any family members regarding questions & needs to be addressed with
MD, home health, IVT therapy after actual discharge.
· Confirms any needed items or arrangements such as DME equipment, Home Health care, Procedures,
follow-up appointments, etc is in order after discharge.
· Makes telephone calls; using assigned script, to patient or family to see how patient is doing after discharge.
· Prepares any needed prescriptions and orders & places on chart for physician/nurse to review and sign.
· Reviews and scans into documentation system patient records from hospital, referring physician, wound
center, etc assigned & alerts nurse/ physician to any needs or clinical results which require further attention.
· Reviews/scans into documentation system all incoming lab results for patient’s alerts nurse/physician to any
needs or clinical results which require further attention.
· Performs direct patient care in clinic, i.e. triage, simple wound care, medication reconciliation, patient
education, follow-up instructions. Assists the physician in assessing the needs of patients based on data
collected through history, observation, physical exam and analysis of diagnostic data, prepares patient to be
seen by physician. Documents all findings in medical record.
· Assists physician with treatments and procedures as needed
· Schedules procedures, testing and referral appointments for patients per physician instructions
· Manages and maintains infectious disease clinic supply needs
· Initiates and manages all prior authorizations and approvals for medication related to Infectious Disease
Processes.
· Utilizes appropriate health and safety equipment to protect both patient and staff.
· Maintains knowledge and skills consistent with current practice guidelines. Provides self with continuing
education through participation in educational programs, workshops, and research programs, which will lead
to improvement of patient care and self-development.
4. The Medical Assistant will provide support to front office personnel in the following ways but not limited to:
· Greets patients and visitors · Handles any incoming telephone calls in a friendly and courteous manner; directing calls to the appropriate source · Responsible for timely and accurate patient registration and check-in; · Schedules appointments · Key in demographic information into the computer; · Performs a variety of clerical support functions such as filing/ scanning/making reminder calls. 5. Demonstrates competency in, but not limited to the following in the Chronic Care Management clinic (refer to McLeod Health Competency Checklist): · Age Specific Training · Documentation · Code of Conduct · Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation · Restraints · Environment of Care · Policy Review · Emergency Management · Fall Protocol · Infection Control Precautions · Care of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing · Medication Reconciliation · Vital Signs 6. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications /Training:
Licenses/Certifications/Registrations/Education:
· Minimum of a High School Diploma/GED from an accredited school
· Completion of Certified Medical Assistant course
