JOB DESCRIPTION

Essential Function

1. Organize and perform analysis of specimens, including quality control, using appropriate procedures.
2. Operates instruments and equipment accurately using established protocol and quality control checks, evaluating instrument function and quality control when necessary. 
3. Evaluate validity of results. Record and report result correctly and consistently.
4. Recognizes abnormal/unusual results and consistently follows lab procedures for reporting the results including documenting in computer action taken. 
5. Reports results within established guidelines following lab protocol based on specimen status. 
6. Performs and records corrective and preventative maintenance and instrument function checks in a consistent and timely manner per procedure. 
7. Develop personal knowledge of trends, developments and techniques through journals and trade publications, in-service and continuing education. 
8. Collect, prepare, store and/or transport specimens using correct techniques, anticoagulants and protocol. 
9. Assist in maintaining supplies. Restocks items to ensure availability to staff, documents consistently the receipt and opening of a supply and stores them properly. Recognizes depletion of item and notifies appropriate personnel to reorder. Monitors the expiration dates of all supplies and reagents. 
10. Review worksheet status, technical inquiry, collection lists and print worksheets for technical and clerical accuracy and assure necessary corrections to appropriate records are made by appropriate personnel. Review worksheets for proper turn-around-times, check for technical and clerical errors.
11. Train and document proficiency of assigned employees as directed by supervisor.

Licenses/Certifications/Registrations/Education

• Certification by recognized national certifying agency
• Minimum of a Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology or in appropriate biological, chemical, or physical science program from an accredited school or completed certification as Medical Technologist with certifying agency (AMT).
• Minimum of twelve (12) months training in accredited school of medical technology or equivalent work experience.
