Student Grant Opportunities
The Pee Dee Regional Council of Governments has been awarded an H1B Rural Healthcare Grant by the US Department of Labor. The grant is designed to address the shortage of rural healthcare workers in occupations that directly impact patient care. The Pee Dee COG has partnered with Florence-Darlington Technical College, Northeastern Technical College, and McLeod Health to develop employer-specific training programs for rural hospitals and physician’s practices. The project will offer classroom instruction, competency-based training activities, supportive services and case management to participants. In partnership with Apprenticeship Carolina, the occupations will become Registered Apprenticeships or Pre-Apprenticeships. Co-enrollment in traditional WIOA Title I programs will allow for some participants to receive On-the-Job Training (OJT) and additional supportive services, as needed. The targeted occupations include Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse; Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomist, Nursing Assistant, and Certified Medical Assistant.
